XXIII ISSCT Congress
General Services

The Pre-Congress will be held from 18 - 21 February '99 at Daurala (Uttar Pradesh), Pune (Maharashtra) and Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu). The Congress proper will be held from 22-26 February '99 at the newly - refurbished flagship international conference centre of Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, India.

Convention Centre

The most prestigious convention centre, Vigyan Bhawan has been the venue of various Head-of -State level meets such as CHOGM, NAM and the Seven-Nation Summit etc. It has convention facilities which include computer controlled conference systems with simultaneous interpretation system up to eight languages, most modern projection facilities, in-house TV.linked with satellite, communication facilities of E-mail, Fax etc. Local Area Net work with P.C.s, Video recording and large screen video projections. Vigyan Bhawan is located in the heart of the city.

Language

The Official Language of the Congress is English. During the conference and plenary sessions there will be simultaneous interpretation in Spanish & French.

During the Congress a well-equipped Secretariat will be set up in the Vigyan Bhawan premises. There will also be registration counters at different hotels and Vigyan Bhawan to cater to delegates' kit bags, answer their queries, etc.

Airport

Internationally, Delhi is connected with all parts of the globe through services of more than 50 major international airlines including Air India, India's National Carrier. All the international flights generally land in the night at Indira Gandhi International Airport.

During the Congress, there will be a 24-hour facilitation counter and welcome desk at the airport to provide assistance to the arriving delegates. The desks will be set up from 20th February, 1999 to meet and greet the arriving honored delegates and accompanying persons. From 20th February, transfers will be provided from airport to official congress hotels through air-conditioned coaches and luxury cars.

Airline Desk

During the Congress, there will be a desk at the Vigyan Bhawan to provide assistance to delegates with regard to reservation reconfirmation.

Hotels

Delhi boasts of truly international hotels with an Indian ambience. There are all categories of hotels including superior deluxe rooms of international hotel chains. All accommodation is air - conditioned with attached baths, and the hotels have facilities like swimming pools, taxi services, business centres, cosmopolitan cuisine and international telecommunication systems.

Transportation

The Organisation will provide transportation from airport to the hotels, once they have been informed of exact travel plans or arrival and departure. During the Congress, there will also be shuttle service between official hotels and Vigyan Bhawan.

Taxis are available in major areas in the city, at all hotels and at the airport. Car rental service of Europcar will be available through the Europcar counter at the Vigyan Bhawan. Europcar will offer chauffeur driven cars on a per day basis, which is reasonably priced in India.

Telecommunication

Today India has the most sophisticated telecommunication services of Internet, e-mail, fax, computerised EPABX systems, satellite based telecommunication circuits to remote areas and rest of the world. Added to these are the audio-visual presentation systems for single or multi screens, video conference visual aids, video projection systems, and conventional overhead and slide projectors.

Cellular phone will be available on hire for the delegates on a per day basis on arrival at the airport or through the business centre at the Vigyan Bhawan at a special rate for the ISSCT delegates.

Business Centre

All major hotels have business centres offering all services of faxes, e-mail, telephone etc. A business centre will be specially set up at the Vigyan Bhawan to provide and handle faxes overseas calls, email services on payment basis for the delegates.

Information Centre& Hospitality Desks

There will be an information centre at Vigyan Bhawan providing information on city sight seeing , excursion, accompanying persons program, tours etc. There will also be information centres (Hospitality desks) at the main congress hotels during the Congress. Delegates and their accompanying persons will be able to obtain information on Shopping (handicraft, flight details, general, etc.) Car rental, banks (currency exchange), Post Offices, Hairdressers, Restaurant, Transportation, Medical Facilities (ambulances etc.) etc.

Medical Service

All hotels provide doctor-on-call service for their guests. In order to avail yourself of these services, should the need arise , simply contact the reception or the lobby manager, who will provide the services you require. During the conference from 0900 to 1800 hours to meet emergency medical requirements there will be a medical aid centre at the Vigyan Bhawan and doctor on call. For specific emergency medical requirement for which services of a nursing home is required, arrangements have been made with East West Medical Centre which is very near to the Vigyan Bhawan.

Currency Exchange

Lndia's official currency is the Rupee. Currency exchange facilities are available in the hotel lobbies. At the conference venue, the Vigyan Bhawan, there will be a counter to provide currency exchange facilities during the conference.

Insurance

All delegates are requested to obtain their travel and medical insurance prior to their departure from their countries.

Photographs

There will be an official photographer covering all the conference activities in the Vigyan Bhawan. Copies of photographs may be purchased at Vigyan Bhawan.

Electricity

All domestic usage points receive 220 volts, 50 cycles.

Tropical. Temperatures in February range from 10° -20° C.
